Mantels by Meunier

Custom Crafted of Solid Woods in the European Tradition

Styles of Mantels

Mantels by Meunier custom builds all mantel styles from simple to ornate, from traditional to contemporary, and everything in between. Elements of your mantel can be varied to suit your mantel setting.

If you have a photograph from a magazine or book, or even an idea just in your mind, we can recreate it.

All mantels are custom made. Boards are splined, glued, and clamped together to create a monolithic mass resulting in a fine piece of furniture ready to stain, paint or faux finish.

Additional, we can design a "shelf" or "overmantel" for you.

  FRENCH PROVINCIAL

This home was French Provincial on the exterior, but inside there was no French flavor. The client wanted a mantel that would make a statement as nothing else could.

QUEEN ANNE

We solved the problem this client had of a tall ceiling in a relatively small room by giving the mantel balanced proportions.

  GEORGIAN with Split Pediment Overmantel

Dimensions of this room were large with low ceilings. The scaling of this mantel gave the room the appropriate balance.

  ARTS & CRAFTS

This room needed to look grander and more important. The mirror in the overmantel dramatically enlarged the look of the room.

  OLDE ENGLISH GEORGIAN

The client saw this mantel in an old family photograph. Working collaboratively with the client, it was reproduced exactly to their liking.

  CLASSIC CONTEMPORARY

The site for this mantel was a tall brick wall that was overpowering, making the room appear cluttered as well. At our suggestion, the client covered the brick wall with wallboard, and the mantel became an important architectural aspect of the room.

  ENGLISH COLONIAL

The painting was an important treasure to this client, although it was not very large. We used the overmantel to enhance the painting, and create a context which made it a dramatic statement in the room.

  THE RODGERS MANTEL (Richard Rodgers)

The client was a big fan of Rodgers and Hammerstein music. The Rodgers mantel was narrow enough to fit perfectly into their narrow space because of the narrow design of the shelf.

  FRENCH LOUIS XV

In this romantic bedroom, the client was looking for a  curvaceous mantel.

  ADAM with Garland

This client wanted a classic mantel with clean simple lines. Another client used the same style and placed a family crest in the center panel.

  FRENCH CLASSIC

This beautiful home had thick, rich moldings and the owner wanted an elaborate mantel that could be accentuated with beveled mirror.

  CLASSIC  (Unfinished)

Shown here is a mantel before being finished. The adornments take stain or paint and show even more fine detail than carved elements. There is an infinite variety of French composition ornaments from which to select.
